Happy Birthday Tiger

Tiger Woods turns 30 today. He's arguably the best golfer to ever play the sport and he's only thirty. He holds many records, too many to name. I'm definately a fan of his, but I wasn't always. When he first started he was winning so much it wasn't fun to watch because he would be so far ahead of everyone before the final round. So it was more of a race to see who finished second.
However, he's looked more human in the last 5 years. Struggling at times; while Vijay Singh, Ernie Els and Phil Mickleson have been giving him a run for his money. Of course it's not about the money, he has a shit load. I guess he just bought a $40 million dollar home, nice. Anyways check out Tiger Woods official website. Or if you're not a fan of Tiger Woods, but a fan of golf check out the PGA website.
Good luck to all golfers out there. Good or bad it doesn't matter. As long as you have fun, that's all that counts.
P.S. keep your eye on the ball, no peaking.

Good News

Alberta will follow the lead of the other Prairie provinces by limiting access to a group of cold remedies used to make crystal meth.
Effective immediately, pharmacists must restrict the sale of products made primarily with pseudoephedrine by moving them behind the counter.
The restriction does not apply to many popular cold remedies that have additional ingredients besides pseudophedrine.
"That means a pharmicist will have to agree to the sale of that product," said Alberta Health Minister Iris Evans. "Let's remove that drug from people who just come in and scoop it up for illicit purposes."
Alberta's move follows announcements in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. B.C. and Ontario are considering similar restrictions. I'm sure Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, P.E.I. , New foundland and Labrador, will follow along.
Alberta's Solicitor General Harvey Cenaiko said the decision will have a major impact on the production of the highly addictive drug by choking off the supply of key ingredients used by illegal drug labs. "This is a significant move towards preventing young kids and adults in becoming addicted to crystal meth," said Cenaiko.
As for the 3 territiories, (Nunavut Territory, Northwest Territory and Yukon Territory) I wonder if they will follow this. I don't know if they're having a meth problem like the rest of the country. It might be too damn cold. But the idea makes common sense.

We live in Canada

So much for San Diego. My last post included how warm it was in Calgary and all the high temperature records we we're making. Well, so much for that.
Currently we're under an intense arctic air front. Which is making things extremely cold, with highs around -15 degrees Celcius and lows around -22 degrees. With the windchill it makes it about -20 degrees as a high and -30 to -35 degrees. Too damn cold. Not to mention it's been lightly snowing for the last few days too. yikes!
Unfortunately this weather is here to stay for at least another week before we see any improvement. In the form of a chinook.... shitty. Oh well it comes with the territory. What ever doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. right! It just means we get to drink more baileys in our coffee and more hot tautties. I love Canada. yeah

Welcome to San Diego

Wow, what a day? Today in Calgary, Alberta, Canada we had a high of 14 degrees Celcius. That's right, it's the last week of November and we're having late spring/early summer weather. The extended forecast gets even better. Tuesday it's projected to be a high of 18 degrees, Wednesday a high of 16 degrees and on Thursday a high of 19 degrees. I think I'll have to find a patio and enjoy a couple beers in the sun. We're going to enjoy it while it lasts. It's suppose to snow on Saturday.

We're paying for Canada

A new study from the University of Calgary confirms Albertans pay out more to the rest of Canada than any other province.
It went back four decades, compared population, average income per person and what has flowed out of the province compared to what has come back.
In the last 40 years, Alberta has pumped about $244 billion more into federal coffers than it has got back.
That compares to $315 billion for Ontario, which has a much larger population and higher net income per person.
B.C. is the only other province to put in more that it got back, contributing $54 billion.
Considering Alberta's population is less than the other two provinces, Alberta pays the most per capita.
Roughly $2,500 a resident every year, over the last 40 years.
The study was compiled by U of C economist, Robert Mansell.
His study took into account transfer payments, taxes, employment insurance and Canada pension payments.
He points out anyone who argues Alberta should pay higher transfer payments isn't considering the entire picture.

Well, there's the facts. Here's the opinion; Isn't it ironic the 2 provinces which seem to vote (provincially) more Tory than Liberal. Are the ones which pay the most to help out the rest of Canada. It's not about the money. We're are glad to give generously. The frustrating thing for Albertans is we pay so much and have very little to say in the grand scheme of things, concerning Canada and how it's run. Ontario, Quebec and Eastern Canada decide how it's going to be. We just decide if we support it or not. It would be nice to have a fair shake, politically. As I've said before on this blog. (posted Friday, June 24th, 2005 -- 'Canada needs reform') We're a minority rules country, and we need electoral reform so that Canadians are properly represented.

On a side note. It seems Quebec's going to separate sooner than expected. There cocaine sniffin leader shall lead them to independence. or shall he?

What's the problem, eh?

I was just flipping the channels when I came across CNN. What caught my eye was on the ticker there was this title "WHAT'S THE PROBLEM, EH?". The reporter was Kittie Pilgrim, if I can remember, she was reporting on the strained trade relations between Canada and the US. Her story mentioned the softwood lumber dispute. She was suprised that Canada was putting up such a fuss over only 4% of all the trade between the 2 countries. She also went on to say how our Prime Minister was grand standing at the WTO, the World Trade Organization, and the WTO decided in the USA favour. Yet we hear that the WTO decided in Canada's favour. Somebody's lieing here, can someone straighten this out?

P.S. it was funny watching CNN talk about Canada in the fashion it did. It seemed like they think we're the slow neighbour that, just doesn't get it.

Bad Idea

The City of Calgary has a plan to change over half of the city's 4-way stops. To, what they like to call, round-about driving circles. This is to help reduce the residential speeding which seems to be happening in the neighbourhoods, esspecially the rich ones. What they're doing is just putting big concrete circles in the middle of the intersection. Taking out the stop signs and adding yield signs.
This is just a bad idea. I'm glad they took out the stop signs. I don't have to come to a complete stop anymore. I just slow down, ie. yield, and then proceed when it's safe. Which is almost all the time. So I don't know how this will help solve the problem. It's not even a proper driving circle. Which is usefull when it's used at the right place. This is just a band-aid solution from our City officials.

We're Badass Mother Fuckers

After reading Bill Kauffman's article, Journey of terror, It kinda suprises me that Canada is involved in something like this. But we can justify it because it's supported by the United Nations. It's no wonder we get painted as "Americans" on the global scene, in some places.
Brutal.

Ralph you cocksucker

Now I'm not talking about our federal finance minister Ralph Goodale, although I bet there are some poeple who would say he sucks cock. I'm talking about Ralph Klein. It seems now we aren't going to be getting our surplus cheques until the new year. So much for a happy christmas. As one liberal critic says 'Ralph doesn't want to be Santa, instead he wants to be my valentine'. Fucking politicians; you just have to laugh.
On another front, it looks like our Prime Minister, Paul Martin is going to be taking a page out of Ralph Kleins book. Surplus cheques for the less fortunate. I doubt I'll qualify, but it's a good thing. Hopefully after a couple of years, if oil prices stay high, I might get a piece of the federal pie. But I'm not holding my breath.
I question the ammount of cash available. The Liberals said only maybe about $2 billion dollars as a surplus. Is that going to be enough? Take into consideration the Liberals like to pay their friends large ammounts of money for little or no work done. Look at the shenanigans with Mr. Dingwall. He quits his job, but threathens to sue if he doesn't get a severence package. Hello, Canadian law states that anyone who quits his/her job is not eligible for a severence package. So at least $500,000 will go to Mr. Dingwall because he's so hard done by, oh plus his pension. You just have to laugh, I guess. They got the power and they can do what they want.
Welcome to Canada!

Audioslave Rocks!

WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO......
On Sunday October 2nd, 2005 I, accompanied by Mike Donat, went to see Audioslave perform at the Saddledome. What a concert it was. It fuckin rocked from start to finish. Chris Cornell didn't miss a beat and Tom Morello is a fuckin genius. The way he makes his guitars sing is incredible. It was Audioslave's first ever visit to Calgary, but I'm sure they'll be back soon.
Opening for Audioslave was first, a new band called '30 seconds to mars', they sucked. Then 'Seether' made an appearance. But I wasn't impressed with them. Sure they have a couple songs which I know. But they sound too much live a Nirvana rip off. Come on Audioslave.
Audioslave consists of; Chris Cornell on vocals; Tim Commerford on bass; Brad Wilk on drums; and Tom Morello on guitars. Chris Cornell was previously the singer on "Soundgarden" and the other three played in "Rage Against The Machine".
Once Audioslave hit the stage the crowd came alive. With the crowd already pumpin', Audioslave put the crowd into 6th gear when they played 'BE YOURSELF'. The mosh pit was crazy, it wasn't the worst I've seen, but it was a good one. Also, the Calgary fans made a serious connection with Chris Cornell during 'LIKE A STONE'. In which the fans started drowning out the lead singer. The crowd was singing so loud, Cornell actually paused and pumped his fist in the air. Which made the fans scream louder. From that point on, we were pawns to Audioslave's and Chris Cornell's hypnotic melodies.
In Addition they also played Spoonman and an acoustic Black Hole Sun, from Soundgarden. Plus, they played Testify, and at least 3 other songs from Rage Against the Machine. (damn monkey) "fuck you i won't do what you told me..." was one of them. It didn't sound bad at all, even with Cornell singing it.
I must also say that Tom Morello is a god. He's not "the" god, but a god. He was simply unbelievable. I would pay just to watch him alone. He's also a Flames fan; which is a bonus. So go out and buy Audioslave's new album-- OUT OF EXILE. It rocks!
peace

Ralph you fucking liar!

Of course I'm not talking about Ralph Klein, although I'm sure he's lied during his time as a politician. I'm talking about our federal finance minster Ralph Goodale, he's a fucking liar. He says that the federal government can't reduce it's tax on gasoline because it won't make a difference at the pumps. He obviously thinks Canadians are stupid or can't do simple math. Then again he could be right about people from Toronto, but that's for another post at another time.
The feds take 10 cents from every litre sold in Canada, plus GST. It's the tax the tax scheme, been happening in Canada for years. I think it's about time it's stopped. Which might mean a change of government. But as we've seen in the past that probably won't happen. Here's a good article from Licia Corbella about these shenanigans! Check it out.

Guilty Until Proven Liberal

Is it just me, or is so-called Canadian justice screwed up?
The Crown is always crowing about how it wants to make an example of criminals and show how crime does not pay.
Yet, here are two prime examples: Adscam's Paul Coffin steals $1.5 million, gets to keep $500,000, and is slapped with a feather duster and given a two-year conditional sentence.
Yet, a few years ago, Manitoba farmer Andy McMechan was hauled into court in leg irons and sent to prison for shipping a few bushels of his own wheat into the U.S.A. and contravening the Canadian Wheat Board Act.
Guess who was an easterner and friend of the federal Liberal government and who was a nobody from the west?

Licia Corbella writes a good column about how there's a double standard in Canada. No wonder talk of separation grows in Alberta. Check it out!

Mo Money, Mo Money

Before the end of 2005, Albertans (except convicts) will receive a one time tax-free $400 cheque from the Alberta Government. Well almost tax free, I'm sure the Federal government will want a piece of the pie; Thanks Mr. Dithers. Anyways, due to record high oil and natural gas prices (thanks Dubya, I guess you're good for one thing) Alberta is racking in the royalties. Alberta's projected surplus will be somewhere around $8 billion dollars, if the prices continue to stay high.
This is a good thing, esspecially for lower income earners. $400 bucks goes a long way. Although I always like a tax cut. Cash in hand isn't a bad alternative. Plus, I'm pretty sure there's going to be a tax cut anyways. It's going to be a happy Christmas for many families in Alberta. If energy prices continue to stay high this could be a regular occurance for Albertans. Until the PC's are voted out. But that won't happen until Ralphie retires.
Aside from the $400, Alberta is going through a major construction phase presently. Alberta has roughly a $4 billion dollar infrastructure debt. So there's construction going on all around the province. Not that there wasn't construction before, it's just increased ten fold. The new Alberta Childrens Hospital is almost ready to open, it's very big and colourful. The future is even brighter than before for Alberta. However what goes up must come down. So we must enjoy this while we can. PARTY ON! YEE HAW!

Pentagon Shenanigans

The government for the United States of America would have us believe that American Airlines flight 77, a Boeing 757 crashed into the Pentagon on September 11th, 2001. After seeing this website on the Pentagon Strike (select british version), I no longer believe that to be fact. However, my belief is that the attack on the Pentagon was a US military tactic to pull the wool over everyones eyes, including the media. Simply because the American government lost a boeing 757. They don't know where it went. Lost? nope, stolen. To be used for another terrorist attack at some point in the future. I've even seen other websites which show the United States military pouring a large amounts of sand on the Pentagon lawn. Possibly covering up burn marks caused from the thrust engine of a cruise missile just a few feet from the ground. The people of the United States of America are simply pawns for the government and it's departments to manipulate. Shenanigans I tell you, shenanigans. Sorry USA citizens; you're government can't be trusted, so you can't be trusted. I guess I can't condemn you all. Only about half of you. It's time to wake up.

Happy Birthday

Today is Alberta's 100 birthday. September 1, 1905 was when Alberta became a province. Although I know very little of the times back then. I do know that when they were thinking of naming this province 'Buffalo' was one of the options. I'm glad they made the right choice. Also today Alberta raised it's minimum wage up to $7.00/hr. A 19% increase from the $5.90 it use to be.
I read two good articles today, one by Licia Corbella and one by Michael Platt, check them out.

Taxed up the wahzoo!

In Thursday August 25, 2005 Calgary Sun I read a good article by John Williamson. He's the federal director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation. I couldn't find the article on the Sun's website so I'll write it down word for word; enjoy.....

Titled: "PM refusal giving gas pains"

Paul Martin dug in his heels this week and ruled out lowering gasoline taxes. Canadians will continue to pay through the nose for gas thanks to high oil prices and fuel taxes, which account for one third of the pump price.
Prices now average more than one dollar per litre -- meaning 33 cents is tax -- and family budgets are being squeezed. Yet according to the Prime Minister the price hike does not mean more tax revenue for Ottawa because with higher prices consumption falls.
"The federal government does not make money from increasing gas prices," he told reporters Monday with a straight face. This is not true. For every 10 cent/litre jump in pump prices an additional $175-million in GST revenue flows into Ottawa's coffers. Gas prices are up approximately 20 cents over 2004 levels.
As for the suggestion that gas consumption falls with price spikes, Mr. Martin knows better.
According to Statistics Canada, gasoline sales increase at an average rate of just over 1% a year.
In 1985 retail slaes were 32-billion litres and last year sales exceeded 40-billion litres. Higher gas prices mean consumers have less savings or disposable income to purchase other goods and services.
Mr. Martin's other line of defence against reducing taxes is that the revenue is going to cash-strapped cities and lowering taxes will endanger this funding.
This is absurd. Over the next five years Ottawa will provide $5 billion to cities and communities.
According to the 2005 budget, the funding transfer is $600 million this year and will increase to $2 billion -- equivalent to a third of total gas tax revenues -- in 2009.
Budget estimates pegged total fuel tax revenues from the 10 cent/litre excise tax at $4.68 billion this year.
GST revenues will add another $1.35-billion. Ottawa's total take is projected to be $6-billion this year. Once the gas transfer is deducted Ottawa will be left with $5.4-billion.
Even after Ottawa transfers a generous $2-billion to cities in 2009 more than $4 billion will remain in the governments kitty. All told, Ottawa will relocate $5 billion to municipalities over the next five year and collect an eye popping $30-billion from motorists.
The difference between gas revenues and the gas tax transfer is a staggering $25 billion -- a cushion so large it leaves taxpayers to wonder if the Prime Minister is mocking them when he says he cannot reduce gas taxes.
But then, the federal government seems generally unconcerned about the welfare of the average taxpayer. How can Liberal MP's, for example, defend charging motorists the 1.5 cent a litre "deficit elimination" gas tax when the deficit vanished seven lomg years ago? Why do they continue to charge taxpayers for something -- i.e. the deficit -- that does not exist?
Why is GST charged on the total pump price, gas tax included? This tax-on-tax scam, on average, adds another penny-and-a-half to pump prices. (In New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland & Labrador the 15% HST adds a stunning 3.8 cents per litre!)
Canadians cannot control the world price of oil, but there is plenty that can be done to reduce fuel taxes. A 3 cent/litre reduction will return $1.2-billion to motorists and a 5 cent/litre cut will pump $2-billion back to taxpayers. Even with such a modest gas tax reduction the federal government will still collect billions of dollars in fuel tax revenues eaxch year.
Mr. Martin, you have no more excuses.

Well there you have it, I would think a change in federal government could be coming up. But I'm not holding my breath. I find it suprising that the maritimes continue to support the Liberals. It reminds me of the Simpsons----' you people are nothing but a group of fickle mush heads... "he's right, GIVE US HELL QUIMBY" ah, ah ah, I love GRIMBY!'
What a comedy of errors.

Un-fuckin-believable

On August 16th, 2005 at 7:10pm MST. I paid $20.00 canadian for 19.927 litres of regular unleaded gasoiline. that puts the price of a litre of gasoline of 1 dollar.
What the fuck is going on? Enough's enough. Now I understand gasoline prices are high all over the country. But their should be law prohibiting the price to go above 90 cents/per litre.
Of course I have no choice but to pay this high price. I live in a big city and a vehicle is a must. I'll try to cut down where I can. Unfortunately the oil companies and the governments have us all by the short and curlies. It probably wouldn't be so bad but the taxes are what really irks me. I believe the Canadian federal government puts a 10 cent/per litre tax, plus the Alberta provincial government puts a 7 cent/per litre tax. When us citizens complain each government points the finger at each other saying 'if they drop their tax we'll match it'. Of course this never happens.
The other day I heard from the Canadian Taxpayers Association that us Canadians are still paying a 1.5 cent/per litre deficit tax. Which was put into place in 1995 by the tax happy Liberanos. To reduce the deficit. Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't Canada gone 4 or 5 straight years without a deficit. So this tax should be over, no?
Oh right this is Canada, the low income people have to pay for the rich politicians and their friends. Flying them all over the world. Plus, I guess we have to give some to Quebec, otherwise they might separate. Heaven forbid.
Oh, well. It's the price we pay, I guess, to live in this nice country. Now I know what it's like to be a homosexual. Everytime I go to gas up I get fucked up the ass. Man it hurts. The only positive is that it's good for the Alberta coffers. But I see the politicians taking a tidy sum, in the form of a raise. Simply for being in control at the right time. It's gonna happen. I wonder if Albertans will get a break in taxes, because of these outrageous prices. If not heads will roll, 'and you can take that to the bank'. (If you know what movie that line is from I'll send you $5 bucks. first correct answer wins. can you read my mind?)

New Governor General

Well, Adrienne Clarkson's reign as Governor General came to an end the other day. With our Prime Minister appointing Michelle Jean (I don't think I spelled it right). Now I don't really understand the purpose of this position and I hate how they spend our hard earned tax dollars on everything. But, it's Canada and we seem to do some things ass backwards. One interesting point I can't overlook is; 3 of the last 4 Governor Generals have been chosen from broadcasters. My concern is a free press is one of the cornerstones of democracy. How can the press be free when it's members are rewarded for their loyalty with political patronage appointments?

Liberals and Republicans not so different

I was reading the Comments section in the Calgary Sun the other day. It's one of my favourite sections to read, sports is #1, it offers different opinions to almost every issue. A lot of which a disagree with.
Anyways; after I read this article by Lorrie Goldstein it made me laugh. Check it out at www.torontosun.ca/News/Columnists/Goldstein_Lorrie/2005/07/23/1144996.html
Not that I think Bush is a great man, a good man, or even a smart man. It's just funny how we as Canadians think were not like the Americans. Where we're more alike than you'd realize.
It's funny cause it's true.

GAME ON

On July 22, 2005 the National Hockey League and it's Player's Association came to an agreement on a Collective Bargaining Agreement. Ending a 310 day lockout/work stoppage. Whatever you want to call it. Hockey is the only professional sport to miss an entire season due to League and Union being unable to reach an working agreement. The League getting what it wanted and needed. With the Union, basically bending over backwards. Showing their intelligence, holding out for less money. Anyways that's in the past and it's time to move forward.
I'm glad it's back. I never realized how much I missed it until this year. Once the NFL was done there was nothing to watch during the winter season. It will be nice to see how the Calgary Flames play. There's been alot of changes since the last season. It seems forever since they were in the Stanley Cup finals.
They also held the NHL lottery draft. With the Pittsburgh Penguins winning first pick overall. Which they will no doubt draft Sidney Crosby. I think it's poetic justice. Mario Lemieux will, hopefully, pass the torch on to this future superstar. However; I still not convinced until he plays a few seasons, with no injuries. The Calgary Flames pick 26th overall.
The NHL also unveiled a new logo. I don't mind the diagonal slashs around the letters. But the background with no orange highlights. I'm not so sure. It' s going to be a new league, with new rule changes. Back to tag up offsides. The red line is going to be removed. A shoot-out to decide games, if ited after overtime. They're restricting the goalies equipment size and the space they can handle the puck in. Obstruction is going to be called consistently. As the players are also going to make a conscious effort to stop the obstruction. There are also a few other minor changes which you can check out at www.nhl.com.
A lot of things are going to happen in a short period of time. Including the draft which I believe is on August 5th, but i'm not positive. The regular season begins on October 5th, 2005. Just over 2 months to sign free agents, release players, have the draft, training camp and it's game on. I can't wait.

...and another reason

...and another reason why people from Edmonton are idiots. That's right folks I'm talking fucking stupid. Shit for brains is a proper description of these people. On Tuesday July 20, 2005. Michael White was charged with second degree murder and indignity to a dead body. At first he denied everything, saying he was innocent. Even going on national television and saying he didn't kill his pregnant wife. One week later, after her disappearance, he forms a search party. LOW AND BEHOLD he finds this dead body. Decaying for a few days. After the autopsy, BINGO, it's her and the cops arrest the husband.
Now, it's absolutely retarded to kill anyone in the first place. Let alone your 'expecting' wife that you're suppose to love. Only an asshole from Edmonton would say he didn't do it. Then lead the cops to the dead body where you dumped it. What a major fuck up he is. This is also assuming he's guilty because he's still innocent until proved guilty. But the cops are usually pretty good on these ones.
Unfortunately, these Edmontonians, we have to recognize them because they're in Alberta. But they're just the stupid red-headed step child. I'm sure there are some good, smart people in Edmonton. Only few and far between. Now I don't mean any ill harm towards these people. It's all in fun. Just another specific story to support my case. As far as Michael White is concerned. We'll see what happens.....

The Third way

On July 12, 2005 Ralph Klein and his Health Minister, Iris Evans, unveiled Alberta's "third way" to improve health care. Far be it for me to disagree with Ralphy boy and I won't. This has some good ideas to reduce waiting lists and we need all the help we can get to fix our struggling health care system.
Some of the highlights include; centralized booking for some surgery, make child car booster seats mandatory, consider tax incentives for healthy lifestyles, improve access to mental health services and testing, create an electronic health record, open primary health care centres where specialists can be reached directly, allow Albertans to carry secondary insurance to cover enhanced-care costs, and establish a virtual training campus for rural health providers.
I also think one very good point is that these ideas don't violate the Canada Health Act and it doesn't allow the rich to jump ahead in line. Even our federal health minister, Ujjal Dosanjh (close enough), says these are very good ideas. Plus Calgary's left-wing reporters, who ussually take every opportunity to shoot down Klein, were very mild in there comments toward Ralph's third way. Calling it a 2.1 way, instead of the third way they were all thinking.
Although we still need to watch this and I know our so called "friends of medicare" will be watching this like a hawk. It may be fine in the next 5 years, but should Alberta's redneck community vote in a more extreme right-wing government. This could get out of hand.
These changes won't take effect for some time as everything and everyone needs to prepare. But it will be interesting to see what unfolds in the weeks to come.

Record Soaking

Well, the month of June is finished and a record was set. June 2005 has been the wettest month ever in Calgary, Alberta. A total of 246mm fell during those 30 days. Surpassing a previous record of 245.4mm way back in July 1927. There has been destruction all over the low lying areas in Southern Alberta. Some rivers have even created new flow paths, destroying their old banks. The Alberta Government has pledged $55 million in flood relief, but I'm sure that price will go higher once all the damage claims are tallied. I believe the high flowing rivers have already accounted for 1 death and there are some missing persons still not accounted for.

I now pronounce you husband and husband?... I guess so!

Well it's official, gay marriage is now a "legal" option in Canada. Becoming only the third country in the World to do so. Following the Netherlands and Belgium. I believe it was only a matter of time for Canada, as Great Britain is looking to do the same. The Progressive Conservatives in Alberta, (a province in Canada) don't agree with this decision. They are looking at getting rid of Provincial marriage all together and just recognizing civil unions between two people. If that does happen and you want to get "married" you'll have to go through a church.
Now I don't have anything against gays. I believe everyone should be free to do whatever they want in the privacy of their own home. As long as it doesn't affect anyone else without their consent. I just don't understand gay men. Lesbians? I would like to think I'm a lesbian as most guys do. However, how can any man look at a guy's hairy ass and get all excited and turned on. It boggles my mind. I would think they are mentally disturbed or mentally sick. But saying that I'm probably instantly labelled 'homophobic' or 'bigot'. Which I don't think I am. So I'm left confused.
Anyway; the World is changing and Canada must change with it. This bill or law will stay until the federal Conservatives get in power. Which they say they will have a full discussion about this issue instead of pushing it through Parliament with slimy tactics like the Liberals have done. But being as this is Canada that probably won't happen anytime in the near future. The religious right believes once we open the door to gay marriage then were opening up a whole new can of worms. Just think of the other groups that are going to find a way to get married. What about under age marriage? Say a 24 year old wants to marry a 16 year old. Are we to stop them because one's under 18? Doesn't that human being have a right to marry who ever he/she wants. If they're in love; who are we to stand in their way. The Bill of Rights gives rights to all Canadians young and old.
I would like to see a referendum on this issue for all Canadians to vote on. Simply because in a previous blog I had mentioned how Canadians aren't being properly represented in Parliament. Also, it's our society and we should decide as a majority, if we want this. I personally believe in gay unions; not gay marriage. I believe the term "marriage" should be reserved for a man and a woman. You got to think of the children.

Canada needs reform

I'm not talking about the Reform Party. I'm talking about electoral reform. We are becoming a MINORITY rules country. When we should be a MAJORITY rules country. Isn't that what democracy is all about. Now That doesn't mean we shouldn't listen to the minority, they have alot to say. However the needs of the many should outweigh the needs of the few. A prime example of this problem goes back to the last Canadian election. 500,000 Canadians voted for the Green Party, yet they got 0 seats in the house. Where as; 200,000+ Canadians in the maritimes voted for the Liberal Party and they received 22 seats in the house. So the real question should be; Are Canadians being fairly represented in the House of Commons? The answer is no.
Another thing Canadians need is an elected senate. The Prime Minister should not appoint the Senators. Each Province should vote for their Senators, to properly represent their province and their ideals. Instead our Prime Minister appoints his friends to tow the party line. Again, another example of how Canadians aren't being represented.
Will Canada ever change? ...maybe, but the way our socialists control the country it will be a long time before that happens. By the time the USA changes, if ever, Canada will follow suit. The socialists have such a tight grip on the political scene right now. It's going to take along time before anything happens. They're very good at controlling the media, well our National media is already left-wing bias, so it's very easy to do.
The fear propaganda that our socialists spew is exactly what the Republicans to our south use. It's too bad our Eastern Canadians fall for this. It's quite funny when you think about it. The Left wing/socialists will bitch and complain how the Republicans confuse and use scare tactics to win an election, but applaud it when it serves their own purpose. Unfortunately it makes our country look like a joke. On the global scene, most people think Canadians are just like the Americans. We say we aren't, but we are more like them than you'd think.
Let's hope we can fix this country before it's too late. If the proper steps aren't taken, eventually Quebec will seperate and Alberta could very well follow. Then Canada will be a shell of it's former self. What am I thinking, Canada won't exist. Just lots of mini countries. Some provinces will combine. I'm sure the maritimes will stick together. Only time will tell.

You're gonna read what I've typed and GOD DAMN LIKE IT TOO!

You know; I haven't made a post in some time and there's not really anything I want to spew about. So I'm just gonna shoot from the hip. I was first a little skeptical of this 'blog' thing. Not sure how much I'd use it or if I'd really enjoy it. But now I realize that this is a great thing. I can type anything coherant and someone might actually read word for word what I'm thinking. Like you're doing now. It's a great tool.

On a side note, Calgary's under a water restriction phase right now. Many low lying places in the city have flooded basements. The Elbow river has broken it's banks and the Bow river is at a record high. My dad works for the Calgary Fire Department and he says the really rich people with the million dollar houses are the hardest to deal with. Their basement is flooded and they're looking to sue someone or the city. While the regular folks who's basements are flooded, are more understanding and appreciate the help more. God Damn Rich Bastards.

So in closing I would just like to state that I 'enjoy this blog thing, it's fun'. Check out Meth is Bad if you haven't. He's Insane in the Membrane. Don't do chemicals kids, or that could be you.
PARTY ON!

Thank You

JIMMY'S BACK ON THE STREET

Back on June 2, 2005. I came home, only to see my cat had ripped open an absess; which was inside his ear. The side of his head was bloody. It was very disgusting. So I grabbed him and off we headed to the cat hospital. The vet immediately took him and got him ready for surgery the next day.
June 3, 2005. The vet calls me at work. She tells me Jimmy had a successful surgery and would be ready to pick up later in the afternoon. After a $311.00 bill, Jimmy's got a cone on his head, a drain in his ear and he's a little groggy. I had to bring him back in 4 days to have his drain taken out and 10 days to get his sutures out. As well, he has these pills to take. Clavamox, almost like Clawmonkey, but not.
The next 4 days he spends his days trying to get out and just sitting there waiting til it's over. On June 6,2005 he's headed back to the vet. He always hate's the ride in the truck. The drain is removed and he gets some ointment in his wounds. He's feeling better but still hates his cone. 1 week to go.
He spends that week; just lying around, trying to scratch through the cone. He's extremely depressed. Finally, after all the drugs, the wait is over. On June 13, 2005 he got his sutures removed and his cone off his head. He spent the rest of the night outside and only came in for fifteen minutes to eat.
Nobody's quite sure how it happened. I would guess it's because he's an explorer and will stand his ground. If it's a fight they want, Jimmy will take them on. He won't go looking for it. But he won't back down either. So put the word out.
JIMMY'S BACK ON THE STREET!

Finally! We're coming to our senses

The Supreme Court of Canada decided yesterday, Quebec citizens could purchase private health insurance. Thus, striking down a law prohibiting Quebecers from such things. They say 'the government's "monopolistic" grip over the system, as patients suffer and die on long waiting lists, is unconsitutional. " The physical and psychological suffering and risk of death that may result outweigh whatever benefit there may be to the system as a whole."
This should be our main goal regarding health care across Canada. Why should it matter where you get medical attention? Only that you get medical attention quickly. My proposal would be to have these private medical centres do the necessary operations and all expenses would be paid for by the province. Who cares if your paying a government building or a private one? As long as Canadians get the service they need. Were talking life and death here, and a lot of pain and suffering. Which isn't necessary.
All medical expenses would be paid for. Except for prescribed medication. Which will be picked up by the Federal Governments Pharmacare program. Another benefit, would bring great doctor's to our area. Now some people don't like the thought of doctor's benefitting from their services. But it's the world we live in. I'd much rather see doctor's make millions, then some stooge playing a sport.
There already are private medical clinics in most provinces. Doing specific areas like eyes, knees, and backs. There's probably even more that I don't know about. Some people are worried about a two-tiered health system. Wake up people, it's already hear. Now we have to make it work. Our current Prime Minister, Paul Martin. His personal doctor owns a private for profit medical clinic in Quebec. He says "We're not going to have a two-tier health-care system in this country- nobody wants that." Only him I guess. What a hypocrit.
Let me know what you Think?

I like'em nice and wet, but she's a gushin'

In June 2005 it rained almost continuously for 7 straight days in southern Alberta, flooding many areas. Hardest hit was High River and Pincher Creek, but devastation to many farmers happened everywhere. Almost 10 years to the day the same areas were flooded from a similar storm. Causing $100 million in damage. I'd bet our May long weekend campground; crooked creek campground; would be flooded in areas. Well, my area anyway. It's stopped rainning currently. But more rain is forecast in the future. Between 100mm and 170mm fell in 4 days in the hardest hit areas.
Medicine hat is also on a flood warning. The Bow and Oldman rivers form the South Saskatchewan river before reaching the Hat. Emergency Medical Services estimate the speed of the rivers to reach 600 cubic feet per second. Plus, there has been several funnel clouds spotted and even one touched down for a brief time. The system is currently heading East.
I must say it is nice to have something different happen in the news. The day to day drive bye's; asians killing asians, is getting quite repetitious and boring. Even better no one has died.

Let the Games begin!

Well it's been a long wait but the Calgary Stampeders Football Club has finally begun it's training camp for the 2005 CFL football season. There's been a lot of changes in the off season. The team is almost completely new, from new ownership to a new coach, new starting quarterback and star receiver. The buzz in the city is just beginning and the team has some high expectations already. Only time will tell how the new team gels and time they will need. The regular season starts Canada Day July 1st, 2005. Against the defending Grey Cup champions the Toronto Argonauts. Watch it at 7pm Mountain Standard Time on TSN, The Sports Network. (I better get royalties.) Check out the stamps new website at www.stampeders.com.

Make way for Dr.Clawmonkey

Hear ye! Hear ye! Dr. Clawmonkey the leader of all monkey's... No wait, I'm not the leader. Dammit Jim; I'm just a doctor. Oh well, you play the hand you're dealt. Was May long weekend last week. Had a good time with fellow geeks ZibbyDah and Jingo. Drank many a whiskey and smoked many of leaf. It was most enjoyable. But too fucking windy. It was brutal. Just about had me tent fly back to Calgary all by itself. Luckily I slept on a shitty gravel pit, which was just low enough for the many thorns bushes to catch and snag it. What are you going to do? We already stupidly paid for 2 stalls when we only needed 1. damn monkey So we had to use it. I volunteered myself because I like to be different. It was ballzy, stupid, but ballzy. Oh well we had fun and now we get to look back and laugh.
On a sadder note; the more I think about Star Wars episode 3 the more I'm disappointed. In episode 4 Obi-Wan said Darth Vader hunted down and destroyed the Jedi. They did no such thing. Darth Vader just beat up/KILL some kids ( a couple of which were pretty cool). They then sent out stormtroopers to kill the jedi. Some of which were rather feeble, again. He only flukily cut off Mace Windu's hand.
You know what? an awful ammount of Jedi's get there hands cut off at the wrist. You'd think they would have some Jedi wrist protector. To stop that from happening. We use them in volleyball. Why don't Jedi use them? Are they not safety conscious? Any who. Finally...
What is it with the Jedi security cameras? Why weren't they using this thing earlier. They could of saved many lives. Idiot's. It's the first rule of being a good guy. When in doubt --- check the video tape. Obviously they weren't very smart. That's why they get destroyed.
Now remember this kids. Evil will always win, because good is dumb.
